A JUDY GARLAND CABARET
Marjie Shrimpton invites you to forget your troubles and join her for a night inspired by the legendary Judy Garland. Weaving together stories and songs from Judy’s life and her own, throughout the evening Marjie attempts to answer the big question: “What Would Judy Do” (or sing) if she were trying to chase our cares away today?
What Would Judy Do? A Judy Garland Cabaret, directed and co-conceived by Michael Pesce, debuted in New York City in January 2018 to a sold-out audience at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre. Cabaret Scenes Magazine praised the performance, saying, “Marjie Shrimpton stunned with a musical tribute to her hometown hero.”
Marjie was then invited to bring the show to Minnesota, where she performed on her home stage at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids, hometown to both she and Judy, and at Bryant-Lake Bowl in Minneapolis.
On September 18 & 20, 2019, Marjie returned to the New York stage for a final, revamped run of the show at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Judy’s passing, featuring Ben Houghton on piano and Noah Garabedian on bass.
